In this 21st century ICT has been effectively and successfully integrated into production process, management process, governance, education, business, entertainment, security etc. ICT development in the 21st century has offered various means and channels of communicating ideas and experiences. Governments, individual groups and institutions are fast integrating Information and Communication Technology in their management system. With this development one can rightly argue that very soon any one bereft of good ICT skills may find it difficult to function well in the society.

The role of Information, Communication Technology in the present day world is overly huge and central that it can never be overlooked. Organizations, firms, governments and institutions are constantly in search of ways to maximize the potentials of ICT

in their organizations to boost productivity, efficiency and effectiveness.

ICT has improved accessibility and communication of information which eases the operation and management of organizations. ICT has turned the world into a global village characterized by quick and easy means of information gathering and communication.

Modernization of educational system has been one of the major concerns of government and educational institutions in this information age. It implies achieving educational goal by the use of Information, Communication Technology. The integration of Information, Communication Technology    and education has brought about a tremendous transformation in the global educational system.

The potentials of Information and Communication Technology to education is obvious in the rapid digitization and computerization of school systems around the world. This is also evident in the rate at which schools and academic institutions deploy IT software solutions to their schools. The rate of development of online learning (e-learning) platforms, e-libraries, school portals etc. signifies the tremendous benefit of ICT in school administration.

For instance, the United States government as at 2016 provided at least one computer for every five students and spent more than 3 billion USD on digital content annually.

In China, over 10 million school teachers comprising primary and secondary, 200,000 vocational teachers and 100,000 elementary and middle school principals have been given ICT training. Primary and secondary school access to the internet has grown to 88%. The Chinese government further provided 1 laptops per 8 pupils and over 63 million learning spaces for both teachers and students.

Technology-based teaching and learning technique has been the engine of educational development, hence, the introduction of ICT courses at all levels of education.

Most students in Nigerian higher institutions entered high institution bereft of ICT knowledge, they could barely use a laptop. Most of the school activities that required going to the web were done through cyber cafe even though it cost much. However, with the introduction of computer-based tests and online submission of assignments in some of the higher institutions they were compelled to acquire some ICT skills. Now, almost 80% of school activities including exams are done online and it is hard to imagine how a student without ICT knowledge could succeed in this technology-based generation. In recent times, governments and educational institutions have been putting in much effort to achieve complete integration of ICT and education.

The future of education with Information, Communication Technology is that it makes learning a lot easier. By having unlimited access to a lot of educational materials on the web from which students can learn, learning has become easier and enjoyable. There are rich educational videos that offer students online tutorial on any discipline. It has further reduce the burden of teaching on tutors who can easily refer their students to a website for more understanding of the subject. It also keeps teachers on their toes updating their knowledge as students have unlimited access to information on any subject.

The use of projector and power point in learning has also improved learning as students tend to learn more through visual teaching aids. Information, Communication Technology offers a lot of teaching aids, teaching materials and teaching methods to the teachers. Through the use of internet, teachers and educational institutions can have easy access to enormous materials that will help them in developing curriculum, syllables, lesson notes etc.

It further eases the process of sharing academic ideas and research findings among institutions of higher learning in the world. The development of several educational applications and software has improved the
